We left Dickie Beach heading north, with an overnight stop at Bargara (again) to collect mail that had been forwarded to us there. Then we had a coupled of overnight free camps on the way up to Cape Palmerston. What a lovely place, and a great caravan park, we booked in for a week, but 2 days before we were due to leave Susan & Bob and Heather & Robert arrived so we decided to stay another week with them.
Plenty to keep us entertained, with a sing a long 60-70s evening (twice), a bush poet who told jokes as well, state of origin night (wont dwell on that to much, boo) and every Friday night is jaffle night down around the fire. We walked, rode bikes and fished, laughed and had such a great time together. Then the week was over and it was time for us to move on…
Free camping again, Sue and Bob are coming the same way but leaving the day after us, so we are not sure where we will be when they catch up to us. We stopped at a free camp site called Guthalungra and had only been there 10 minutes when Col Parker pulled up beside us on his motor bike!!! What a surprise! He was just heading home with 3 other bikers after a trip up to Cooktown.
Next night we stayed at Campaspe and got talking to a couple of other bikies, this time pedal power – they were cycling from Townsville to Darwin! (and I thought Col was crazy!!!). Then on to Hughenden for 2 nights where Susan & Bob caught up with us. We had a day trip out to Porcupine Gorge which was great, lots of hiking and climbing so really tested my knee and my fitness and was very happy on both accounts!
Having fun and seeing lots! On to Cloncurry for a few days ( wit is by now 18th July), then Mt Isa.
See you there,
God bless, Jack and Christine
